Victor is a Latin name which means "winner" or "conqueror". Boniface is a surname, also of Latin origin and means "fortunate, auspicious". His parody name is a reference to the art of blackface, in which Caucasian performers would use burned cork, makeup, or shoe polish on their skin in order for them to portray African-American characters.
